Crossover — Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026 · Ethernal Studio Ltd.

Summary

Crossover — BC Fire Weather collects no personal information. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Nothing you do in the app is sent to Ethernal Studio Ltd. We operate no server for this app and receive no data from it.

1. Who We Are

Ethernal Studio Ltd. publishes Crossover — BC Fire Weather ("the app"). For privacy questions, contact contact@ethernal.ca.

2. Scope

This policy covers the Crossover — BC Fire Weather mobile app only. Our game Books of Tiles and the ethernal.ca website are covered by a separate privacy policy.

3. Information We Collect

None. The app does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifier. It creates no account and has no login. It does not request location permission and does not read your device's location — fire coordinates come from the published data, not from your phone.

4. Information Stored On Your Device

The app saves the following locally so it works offline and loads quickly. This data never leaves your device, and we cannot see it:

  • A cached copy of the current wildfire list
  • Recent weather station observations
  • A history of published fire sizes, used to show growth over time
  • Your settings, including the map theme, whether background updates are enabled, and whether professional mode has been unlocked

Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes all of it. There is nothing for us to delete on your behalf because we hold nothing.

5. Network Connections

The app fetches public data directly from the sources below. As with any internet request, the operator of each service can see the IP address the request came from. We do not control those services and receive nothing from them.

  • BC Wildfire Service — fire locations, sizes, stages of control, and mapped fire perimeters
  • BC Wildfire Service data mart — hourly fire weather station observations
  • DataBC — weather station locations
  • CARTO and OpenStreetMap — map tiles
  • unpkg — the mapping library used to draw the map

No identifier of any kind is attached to these requests, and no request is made to a server operated by Ethernal Studio Ltd.

6. Background Activity

If you enable hourly background updates, the app periodically fetches the public fire list while closed, so it can record how reported fire sizes change over time. This uses roughly 9 MB of data per day. It sends nothing anywhere, and you are asked before it is ever scheduled. You can turn it off at any time under About in the app, which stops it entirely.

7. Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, because we do not collect any. There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or attribution SDKs in the app.

8. Children

The app is a professional and public-information tool. It is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone, including children.

9. Data Source and Attribution

Wildfire and fire weather information is published by the Province of British Columbia. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia.

Crossover — BC Fire Weather is not an official app. It is not made, endorsed, or supported by the BC Wildfire Service or the Province of British Columbia. Conditions shown in the app are estimates from nearby weather stations, not measurements at a fire, and must not be relied on as the sole basis for any operational decision.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, the date above is updated and the revised version is published here. If a future version of the app ever collects data, this policy will be updated before that version is released.
