TowerRange — Privacy Policy

Effective August 2026 · Ethernal Studio Ltd.

The short version: TowerRange uses your location only to help you find cell signal. Background route-recording happens only when you tap Record. We collect no name, email, or account. Recorded routes stay on your phone. We don't sell data and there are no ads.

1. Who We Are

TowerRange is a signal-finding mobile app published by Ethernal Studio Ltd. (ethernal.ca), based in Canada. This policy explains what data the app uses, why, and what leaves your phone. For privacy questions, contact us at contact@ethernal.ca.

2. What We Collect

  • Location (GPS): to place the signal scans you take on the map and to show your position.
  • Signal readings: carrier, network type, and signal strength at a location.
  • Basic device info: phone model and OS version, attached to a scan so coverage data is comparable across devices.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, or any account login — TowerRange has no accounts.

3. How We Use Your Location

Your location is used to pin the signal scans you take, to show where you are on the map, and — only when you start a recording — to draw the route you walked. That is the entire purpose. We never use location for advertising or profiling.

4. Background Location (Route Recording)

TowerRange can record your route while your screen is off or the app is in your pocket. This happens only after you tap the Record button yourself, and only until you tap Stop. While recording, your phone shows a permanent notification so it is always obvious. If you never start a recording, the app does not access your location in the background. It is opt-in, per-use, and fully under your control.

5. What Is Stored, and What Is Shared

Signal scans (a location plus signal details, with no information that identifies you) are stored on your device and uploaded to our backend to build a shared, anonymous coverage map that helps everyone in your area. Your recorded routes and personal waypoints are stored only on your device — they are never uploaded unless you deliberately export and share a file. We do not sell your data, and there are no ads.

6. Deleting Your Data

You can delete any scan, or clear all of your scans, from within the app — this removes them from your device and from the shared coverage map. Deleting recordings or waypoints removes them from your device. Uninstalling the app removes all on-device data.

7. Third-Party Services

We use Supabase to store the anonymous shared coverage data, OpenStreetMap and map-tile providers to display maps, and a public elevation service to estimate terrain line-of-sight coverage. These receive only what is needed to provide their function (for example, map coordinates). We do not use advertising or tracking SDKs.

8. Children

TowerRange is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13.

9. Your Choices

You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your phone's settings — core features that need location simply will not run until you allow it. Background recording additionally requires the "Allow all the time" permission, which you can revoke at any time.

10. Changes & Contact

If this policy changes materially, we will update it here and note a new effective date. For any privacy question or request, contact us at contact@ethernal.ca.
